| Hurricane Dennis Florida '05 |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| We left south FLorida watching Dennis clear the northern coast of Cuba after making landfall as a strong category 4 hurricanes that day. We targeted Pensacola, FLorida area and headed for the area on friday night. Saturday (9th) we searched the coastline for bunker location to ride Dennis out. Now Dennis returned to Category 4 status and we decided to move off the beaches to the mainland and found a parking garage on the east side of downtown. This is where we encountered Dennis's north and west side of the eyewall and and short eye passage before Dennis fell apart. Our lowest pressure reading was 965mb and winds around 100mph with a few higher gusts. This is extremely rare for early July. This hurricane became very small with a tight wind core but weakened to 115-MPH as it made landfall on Sunday, July 10, 2005 in Pensacola, Florida. |

| The central pressure at time of hurricane core interception was measured at about 965 MB with an eye so small only a wind shift was observed. The entire chase was from July 9 through July 10, with about 1,100 total miles logged. Also view on photo page on Weathervine |
